World Alliance Members Meet MFSA and FIAU to Discuss Financial Regulation, AI and Future Collaboration
Hosted by World Alliance member FinanceMalta, the meetings provided an opportunity for an open exchange between international financial centers and Maltese authorities on current regulatory developments and future collaboration.
Discussing the Evolution of Financial Regulation
At the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), discussions focused on the evolving regulatory environment in Europe, including the implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.
World Alliance members gained insights into how Malta approaches digital asset regulation and supervisory practices in a rapidly evolving financial ecosystem. The dialogue also touched upon the broader challenges regulators face in balancing innovation, financial stability and consumer protection.
Another key topic of discussion was the growing role of artificial intelligence in financial services. Participants explored how regulators and financial centers can better understand and anticipate the impact of AI on financial markets, governance and supervision.

Strengthening Cooperation with International Financial Centers
During the discussions, World Alliance members shared perspectives on regulatory developments and initiatives taking place across their respective financial centers.
This exchange allowed participants to identify areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration, particularly in fields such as digital finance, regulatory innovation and knowledge sharing among financial hubs.

Meeting the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit
World Alliance members also visited the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU), Malta’s authority responsible for preventing money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.
The meeting offered an opportunity to better understand Malta’s approach to financial intelligence, compliance frameworks and supervisory mechanisms in the fight against financial crime.
Discussions highlighted the importance of international cooperation and information sharing in strengthening global financial integrity and ensuring that financial centers remain resilient against illicit financial activities.
