Since its establishment in April 2019, the general incorporated association Tokyo International Finance (FinCity.Tokyo) has been promoting new entrants into the asset management industry and disseminating information to asset owners through the Japanese version of the EMP (Emerging Managers Program) with the aim of enhancing Japan's asset management ecosystem. As part of this, the Tokyo Asset management Forum, which has been held since 2019, has held numerous discussions to promote funding for emerging asset managers (EMs).

The "Asset Owner Principles," which were clearly stated in the government's "Policy Plan for Realizing a Nation Built on Asset Management" and formulated by the Cabinet Secretariat on August 28, 2024, state that "when selecting an asset management company, asset owners should not base their selection solely on reputation or size, but should also consider the capabilities and experience of the asset manager (including experience at previous asset management companies)."

FinCity.Tokyo will continue to create a forum to introduce the efforts of emerging asset managers, in order to help asset owners who act based on these principles build diverse asset allocations.

Following on from last year, this year's TAMF will hold an "EM Showcase" to introduce distinctive EMs and hold in-depth discussions with domestic and international experts on themes such as impact investment and the allocation strategies of overseas institutional investors to EMs. Through this, FinCity.Tokyo aims to further utilize and develop EMs in the Japanese financial market.

In addition, in collaboration with the side events "ABAC Sustainable Finance Seminar" to be held the previous day and "FinCity Global Forum" to be held on the same day, FinCity.Tokyo will provide a forum for in-depth discussion with stakeholders in the asset management field. We sincerely hope that these two days will be a meaningful opportunity to incorporate diverse perspectives from both Japan and overseas toward the future of Japan's financial markets.
