Join us for the Earth Forum 2024, themed "Transition Finance Towards a Net Zero Economy," co-organized by our esteemed member, the Financial Services Development Council, along with Friends of the Earth (HK) and the China Sustainable Investment Forum. This forum aims to explore how sustainable and responsible finance can lead the way to a net-zero economy, aligning with the goals of the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Financial institutions are instrumental in allocating capital for climate-resilient development and facilitating the transition to a net-zero economy. Despite significant growth in green finance, investments in high-carbon sectors for transitioning purposes have fallen short due to the lack of common standards and accountability mechanisms. There is mounting pressure on financial institutions to prioritize lending to environmentally friendly, sustainable, and socially responsible projects while divesting from carbon-intensive activities.
Transition finance has emerged as a critical tool to support the whole-of-economy transition towards lower and net-zero emissions. In Hong Kong, transition finance has been identified as a priority for 2024 to solidify the city's position as a leading sustainable finance hub. The forum will discuss key aspects of transition finance, including product innovation (such as sustainability-linked bonds), climate-related financial disclosure based on international standards (IFRS S2 and TCFD), and transition risk management using climate scenario analysis and stress testing.
Join industry experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to delve into these crucial topics and contribute to shaping the future of sustainable finance. Together, we can accelerate the transition towards a greener, more resilient global economy.
